Medicaid vs Addiction Treatment

Hello everyone.

I’m reaching out to YOU to simply to read this message.
I lost two brothers and numerous friends to drug addiction and I know I cannot save them… I since have started a Treatment Facility to help save the lives of other people and their families. With new laws created, we are now “shackled” by bureaucracy.

We KNOW we have saved MANY lives already but recent law changes made it illegal for the family of the person suffering this “DEMON” of Heroin/Opiate addiction to help their child and pay for treatment themselves. Illegal for the Facility to accept payment from ANYONE if their child is on Medicaid or The Doctor/Facility would lose their license. Really???   REALLY!!!

This is the equivalent of…. If I wanted to pay for food for my son or  daughter…
A: I would NOT be allowed to. &
B: The landlord/owner would lose his/her building.

Many of these patients were not asking for “handouts” but their FAMILIES wanted to PAY for the treatment to SAVE THEIR CHILD!

HYPOTHETICALLY…
IF THAT SAME CHILD CAME IN WITH NO INSURANCE…
WE COULD SEE THEM RIGHT AWAY.

 

HOW AND WHEN DID MEDICAID GAIN THE AUTHORITY
TO STOP US FROM HELPING THOSE WE LOVE????

 

 

These new laws are forcing many who are addicted back to the streets for drugs while waiting in line to get into a treatment facility (sometimes over 6 months for treatment)… This is simply breaking our hearts as we know the lives we were saving are now in fear of getting arrested, losing their children or dying from an overdose.

 

I COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND if Medicaid doesn’t want to pay for a specific treatment but HOW AND WHEN did they gain the authority to stop us from helping these we love??? These new Medicaid laws INSISTING that a parent CANNOT pay for their child, a son cannot pay for mother, a fiance cannot pay for the one they love if they are on Medicaid. The new Medicaid laws are literally KILLING PEOPLE; sending REAL people.. our neighbors, friends, co-workers and relatives (sometimes unbeknownst to us) back to the streets and in the arms of the drug dealers.

 

With recent changes in the Medicaid laws many Treatment Facilities simply stopped treating Medicaid Patients. Even if the family or friend wanted to help someone with their addiction, and pay for treatment themselves, the Facility cannot  accept payment if their patient is on Medicaid. If We, or ANY clinic does… The Doctor/Facility would lose their license. This is forcing many who are addicted back to the streets for drugs while waiting in line (sometimes over 6 months for treatment)… this is simply breaking our hearts as we know the lives we were saving are now in fear of getting arrested, losing their children or dying from an overdose.

THEY DESERVE BETTER!!!

 

PLEASE HELP US HELP THEM!!

That’s why I created a petition to All members of The House of Representatives, All member of Congress, The President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, Andy Slavitt, Acting Administrator, Timothy Hill, Deputy Director, Vikki Wachino, MPP CMS Deputy Administrator/Director, Steve Beshear, Kentucky Governor,  and others.
